jeannie b , don%26#39;t know if your plans are specific for Yangon , but if you want to tour the sites of myanmar, it would be better to fly from chiang mai to mandalay , most of the well known places to visit are in that area. you can always organise a one way trip with car/van and driver to yangon and fly out from there.

The triangular route that you are talking about is not running anymore. Yangon-Chiang Mai-Mandalay %26amp; hasn%26#39;t been running for sometime.

If you want to get to Yangon from Chiang Mai you%26#39;ll have to get to Bangkok %26amp; fly in that way, at present this is the only route into Burma from Thailand.

Alternatively, you can travel to Mai Sai in northern Thailand %26amp; get a 14day pass(not a visa) there for $10. You can explore the surrounding villages %26amp; tribes around Tachilek %26amp; Kengtung, you can travel onto the Chinese border town of Mongla but there%26#39;s not a great deal there unless you%26#39;re into casinos. These are the only places you can visit if entering on this pass, you cannot fly down country.
