I am going to Myanmar next week and am very happy to learn that SIM cards will be available and that I will be able to make international calls back home to check on my mom and kids.
WHere do I go to buy these cards? I read somewhere that they are not sold in many places. Will the cards fit most mobile phones, or must it be a 3G phone?
How much do the cards cost? I only need it for the 2 week period.
THanks.
Where do I buy the SIM cards to make international calls?
The place can be in an array since it is starting locally, got no idea on how they go public. For sure, you can buy those cards at Mobile Shopping Mall on Pansodan Road, a colonial red-brick building ';telegraph office'; sided by ';High Court'; known as Supreme Court. Allegedly options are ';mobile handset shops in Yuzana palaza'; or on Anawrahta Road downtown.
Two types: 10 USD/FEC (usable in 2 weeks) or 20 USD/FEC card (usable in a month). No top up though. Selling price may vary shop to shop due to exchange rates and can be 15000 Kyat for 10 USD maximum. Not necessarily to be 3G.
We don%26#39;t know yet how a traveler can manage to buy such one in Myanmar. So update us if you have tried. This will be helpful information to all of us.
Where do I buy the SIM cards to make international calls?
Thanks Adroit River. Will do.
Wonder whether these SIM cards can be used in places outside Yangon, e.g. Bagan, Mandalay or Inle Lake...
I will only be in Yangon for less than 2 days, so if the card cannot be used outside Yangon, there will be not much point in getting it.
You can buy at all city mart , Ocean super market and most of the telephone shops.
The call charges is 1.5 per minutes to any country. You can use in Inle, mandalay and bagan as well. 10 FEC and 20 FEC on sell. 10 FEC is valid for only 14 days and 20 FEC is valaid for one month. Do not forget to check the validity date before you buy.
Thanks mgzaymin.
What about receiving long distance calls? How much does it cost via this SIM?
Would it be possible to send sms messages via this SIM? Would you know how much it costs to send one message or to receive a message?
I have read your many posts in this forum, and thank you for the help you have provided!
Hi,
Don%26#39;t they (the SIM cards) have to be ';registered'; with a service provider? Who are the service providers? Indeed useful information if they work! Validity for 2 weeks is sufficient for me also.
Khayeethe
1. Oversea call which you made is FEC 1.5 per minutes. If you receive your call from out side , the charges is 0.05 per minutes.
Local call , is FEC 0.3 per minuites. I don%26#39;t think you can send the message. I did not see in their advertisement.
2. We need to give our I.D number to them , for you may be a passport number when we buy . Distributed by the company name is called ';Red Link Communication'; .
I got some more info on this SIM card. Soon , you will get in some hotels . They are planning to sell in hotels too.
Message can send local only with 0.05 per message. for international , not availiable yet.
Thank you for the SIM information. I will be going to Myanmar this weekend and when I return I will probably post my experiences with the SIM card.
I can%26#39;t wait to see Myanmar! From what I have seen on the internet it is such a lovely place!!
