I don%26#39;t know whether octorber is good season for safety?

The typhoon was hopefully a once in a 50 year event.

Have travelled in October-Yangon,Bagan,Mandalay and up river to Bhamo.

Hot and sunny every day and luckily no rain and very warm but cooler (22c) as we got near the Chinese border.

Can get rain in October and the coastal resorts do not open fully till late October when the chance of heavy rain is less.

As stated above, typhoon is unlikely event in any given place at a given time. October is near the end of the typhoon season and also at the very end of the rainy season. We traveled in Myanmar in 2008 in the middle of October. We did not see rain a single day. Everything is pretty and green after the rainy season. The road to Chaungtha was rough due to recent rains but all the hotels were open.

Hi Barib33,

The Monsoons are comming towards the end by October. You might get some rain in the Southern parts of Myanmar, like in Yangon, Bago, Moulmein; perhaps also in Chaung Tha and Ngwe Saung (the two beaches on the South of the West coast. Otherwise in places like Mandalay, Bagan, Ngapali (the other beach on the North of the West coast.)By October, the rains of the monsoon over the past 3-4 months would have effectively cooled down the hot summers and it would be generally very pleasant. I find it nice and cool in Bagan and Mandalay as well as in Ngapali. It would be decidely cool in Inle Lake and Taungyi in the Shan Plateau on the East. Strong winds and heavy rains occur over the approach of the rainy or monsoon season, over the months of June, July and August. The typhoon you mentioned occured in the beginning of May 2007. It is unusual for strong winds in May in the main. By September/October, the rains and the winds would have generally settled down and it would be safe, especially flying.

I have briefed you the weather situations in general. I am sure you will enjoy your visit. I have always advised that October - the end of February/March is the best period to visit Myanmar.

Khayeethe.
