Hotel by the Red Canal is magnificent

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel by the Red Canal. The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag our selves away from the hotel to go to the out side at all. Mandalay city is so hot we couldn%26#39;t wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of the hotel.

We stayed on the Chin suites with own wide balcony. Breakfast is a lovely continental spread with cheeses fruit pastries etc.

The pool is lovely, not big but more luxurious. Our kids are 6 and 8 and they enjoyed it. The pool attendants were wonderful, laying out 3 towels per sun lounger, with one rolled up as a head rest. The waitress even came into the pool with a tray of smoothies for everyone to try.

We paid $78 per night for a room which we thought excellent value.

Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel in Mandalay

we are planning to visit in oct 2009 for the first time. how would you recommend we book? also would like to stay in two centres (1)mandalay (2)a place with beautiful views . where do you suggest? we like relaxing hols, with culture and sightseeing nearby.not too exhausting. we are looking at 2 weeks.

Hi Funkymonkey69,

Have you considered Bagan and, or Ngapali? You can really chill out in Ngapali which is the beach on the West coast. In Bagan I can recommend the Bagan Thande on the banks of the Irrawaddy - excellent views across the river. Note: there is another thande called Nyaung Oo Thande; it is in the middle of Nyaung Oo town and you wouldn%26#39;t get the scenic views from there. Make sure you chose the Bagan Thande on the Irrawaddy. If you want to go a bit more upmarket, go for the Thiripyitsaya Sakura which is next door.

Hi Funkymonkey69,

I forgot to add you will certainly get the culture, interesting sights as well as the scenery in Bagan as it is the ancient city (archeological site).

thank you for your help .can you suggest which is the best way to book?. on the net or through travel agents? as a package or hotel / flight? and how do you get visa? i really am grateful for any advice !

Hi FunkyMonkey

I have recently returned from a holiday in Myanmar Nov/Dec 2008, Yangon- Inle Lake-Mandalay- Bagan-Yangon. I organised all travel arrangements with a travel agent Good News Travel (www.MyanmarGoodNewsTravel.com) based in Yangon. I set out my itinerary e-mailed it and William Myatwunna the travel agent who made all the necessary hotel and flight bookings. The fees were paid when I arrived in Yangon. William speaks very good English and provided useful additional advice.

In respect of your visa, you will need to send a completed formal application form, fees, photographs along with your itinerary to the Myanmar Embassy in London a couple of months before your visit.

thank you to all the replies, very informative and helpful.will get busy organising!
