more visa questions

Hi, I have read most of the posts regarding visa topics but I am still unclear about a few things. I was originally planning to get my visa in Bangkok but I am now hearing that it may take 3 to 4 days (or more) and I would rather not eat up my days in Bangkok. So if I get my visa from Washington D.C. it seems they want a copy of my itinerary which I won%26#39;t have until I get to Bangkok (i was going to purchase my flights once in Bangkok) in addition the forms ask for the name of a reference/guarantor. Is this necessary? I will be traveling alone and I have also heard that you must have a group of at least two? I will not be using a travel agency so........

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Rod

more visa questions

Rod,

I am leaving for Burma in three days, so I have just gone through the process of getting my visa. I obtained it from the embassy in Washington and it was very easy. Yes, they want a copy of your itinerary, but they aren%26#39;t going to verify it or anything. If you%26#39;re flying into Yangon, just put that you%26#39;re staying in Yangon for two weeks (or whatever the length of your trip). As far as the reference goes, I just put the name of my hotel where I will be staying. Again, it%26#39;s not like they%26#39;re going to call and check.

I am also traveling alone, so the part about needing a group of two is bogus.

It only took a week to get my visa back from the embassy and it was very easy. I%26#39;d recommend going that route.

more visa questions

Hey,thanks for the reply. This is some very useful info. However, I am still a little unclear about my itinerary info. Should I put in the info about my flights from L.A. to Bangkok and back? I don%26#39;t have any flights to Yangon yet so do I need to somehow buy those flights and include that? Or do you mean just a written description of what I plan to do? Thanks for you help this really puts my mind at ease. Good luck on your trip. R

I didn%26#39;t include any information on my flights from the US. I did book my hotels through Columbus Travels in Yangon, so I printed out my invoice from them and sent that along with my application. Since you haven%26#39;t booked anything, I would just type a description of what you intend to do and use that as your itinerary.

If the embassy has any questions, they will call you and they are extremely nice and efficient. I don%26#39;t think you have anything to worry about.

Great thanks a bunch.

I have been to Myanmar 4 times alone and last time with my wife in January 2009. I always fill out the forms as instructed and have indicated Park Royal as the hotel for stay.I send my documents to Washington and call them to make sure that they got the documents and ask them when I am going to get my passport back.Typically within two weeks I have gotten my passport back. Due to lack of tourists they are hurting and are most interested to have more visitors.
