After reading many entries on the forum about Myanmar I would like to put together an itinerary that would give me the best possible insight of the country.Ideally to incorporate a few days in Laos then about twelve days in Myanmar would be wonderful.
So any suggestions of ';must'; places to visit and hotels to stay would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

tour itinerary suggestions
Most travel agents have a ';standard package'; with hotel flexibility and add on extensions.
For a first timer our thoughts would be:
Yangon 2 days,Bagan 2 days,Mandalay 2 days and Inle Lake 2 days ,giving you the option of having more/less days at each place or a day at Golden Rock and, if the season is right some days on the beach (Air Bagan,in high season fly Heho/Sandoway twice weekly)
We ';did'; Laos and Myanmar back to back last year - flew into Vientiane via BKK on Thai for a few days then Lao Air to Luang Prabang for another few days before flying Bangkok Air back to BKK to catch the evening Thai flight to Yangon.
Worked a treat
tour itinerary suggestions
Thanks for that information ';silverswimmer';plenty of food for thought. One more question.I know it would be easier for us to book a package, but would it be more interesting to do the homework( and cheaper) and put it all together ourselves, giving us the benefit of flexibilty? Thanks again.
For our first visits we used agencies but we found it so easy to arrange hotels/flights etc that for the last 5 trips have gone DIY.
However if you are planning a tour on the lines I suggested then why not ask a few of the agencies to quote an itinerary for you, excluding International flights.
You can vary the Hotels - you will be spoiled for choice.Loads of good reviews on the Myanmar Hotels listings on this site and Audley %26amp; Bales in the UK have tours/brochures with hotel/itinerary suggestions.
I used,in the early days ,Tour Mandalay (used by Pandaw)) Deithelm, and Asian Trails and all were fine and I have seen recommendations for Extrissimo(?) and others.
Does not cost anything and the itineraries and pricing will be useful. The fact that they arrange and ticket internal flights is a bonus.
PM me if you want.

we%26#39;re just back from our first trip to myanmar...fabulous...we used Tour Mandalay..direct online booking through website for the itinerary Silverswimmer mentioned. They were excellent. The deposit was via a Singapore bank and the balance in cash on arrival. They arranged all flights transfers and personal guide at each place. Very reasonable price and very efficient. The people certainly need the input from tourism but I, personally, would strongly suggest you try to avoid using anything owned by U Tay Za (Htoo)..which includes Aureum..if you google his name you%26#39;ll see why or better still ask someone at Burma Campaign UK for the full story. Air Bagan is also owned by him but is unavoidable.
have a great trip.
I have many friends in Luang Prabang, LAO and can give you their email if you like as one works in the tourist office there and can show you lots of non touristy things
