Not as interesting as Vietnam or Laos?

Hiya

I am travelling in Thailand in the summer, I would like to go to some other country as well...right now my plans include Myanmar, but I have talked to some seasoned Asian travellers and they suggested rather Vietnam or Laos, as its more interesting..

thoughts?

Not as interesting as Vietnam or Laos?

I disagree. I guess it depends on what interests you. I like to experience the culture and everday life. I would rank the three countries: Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam.

Not as interesting as Vietnam or Laos?

I think it depends on how many days you have, as well. Laos you can do it in few days and see most touristic spots. Myanmar and Vietnam you need more time. Personally i found Myanmar the most interesting. For few days and to see something really special, i add you another option: Siem Reap.

Hello...,

There I do not have to say where is good or not,

But i want to let you know that is depend on your taste ,

if you like Banana, you will chose Banana,

if you like mango, you will chose mango.

but some time we face it the things we chose is not better than what we expected,

so if you chose Burma, that you will get great experiences, cause of Burma is one of the unique place of this blue planet,

welcome to Burma

I would certainly put Myanmar before Cambodia or Laos for the variety of sites and culture.

I would also put the Burmese people well ahead of any of the others. There is a gentleness and great humour in their make up (inspite of the politics) which I certainly did not find in Cambodia or Laos.

Myanmar is like Vietnam would have been like 25 years ago but it has a sound tourist structure of hotels and airlines - go now before the magic fades.

I absolutely agree that a trip to Myanmar is a trip back in time - this is true for everywhere there, including Yangon, Bagan, Ngapali, etc. The people for the most part wear traditional clothes which is much more exciting and authentic than seeing all the locals in Western clothes.

I just got back from a fantastic 10 day trip in Myanmar and highly recommend it. It was magical. But I also did love Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. It depends on what you%26#39;re interested in.

I would say that each of the following countries has a unique strong suit:

Laos - natural beauty (espec Luang Prabang)

Cambodia - history in Phnom Penh, temples in Siem Reap

Vietnam - history

Myanmar - there is a bit of everything - definitely natural beauty. Really fantastic, friendly people. Not that there aren%26#39;t great people in the other countries, but Myanmar people are really special. There are monks and adorable novice monks everywhere, not to mentions incredible amounts of temples and pagodas throughout the country! Myanmar is far less spoiled by tourists than any of the other countries in Indochina.

Luckily, all the countries in the region are great, so I don%26#39;t think you can possibly make a %26#39;wrong%26#39; decision.

Hiya, my wife and I spent 12 day%26#39;s in Myanmar and just got back 15 Jan. We have had big trips in the past to Thailand, Vietnam, and a small one (4 day%26#39;s) in Laos. Vietnam and Thailnd are both fantastic, however I am going to put Myanmar as the real deal!!!If you read Nick2222 comments about this country he say%26#39;s it all. I cannot tell you how great our journey was...Mandalay and the day trips!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bagan!!!!!!!!!!!!!, Inle Lake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Napoli Beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What is really amazing is that in no way was 12 day%26#39;s enough time to see everthing you need to experience in Myanmar. It%26#39;s got everthing you will ever want in terms of an unforgetable trip.

Roger

Thanks everyone for all your comments...We will be going to Myanmar for sure! One of the big selling points was that its not as affected by tourism--YET. That is one of the things I dont like about Bangkok!

Thanks, and happy travels!

I have traveled extensively throughout East-Asia, and without hesitation I would recommend both Myanmar and Laos. Neither is a lost Shangri La, both have developed tourist infrastructure, but they have retained their respective culture and sense of identity.

Myanmar has spectacular vernacular scenery (the temples in Pagan are stunning), the shopping is great, and the people are most charming and hospitable.

Laos has incredible natural scenery, beautiful and colorful temples (Luang Prabang) and great food.

I really would recommend Myanmar over Vietnam ; HoChiMinh City has surrendered to commercialism, the people are not overtly friendly and the individual sites do not compare to those in Myanmar !

Have a great trip !

I was in Myanmar in November, later in December Cambodia and Laos.

I went to Myanmar first and it was magical. I did the balloon over Bagan ride, I loved Bagan and Inle Lake.

The Burmese people are great but so are the Lao people in Luang Prabang - for some reason they werent as friendly in Vientiane, It was funny seeing a copy of a Canadian Transport guide re fly dry on the wall at Luang Prabang airport then seeing nanaimo bars - a Canadian invention in Joma Bakery in Vientiane

Anyway another plus for Myanmar was the food cost. I think I averaged $ 3 unless we went to tourist palce like Green Elephant.

Cambodia - Siem Reap too many tourists! But cheap margaritas

Myanmar, It%26#39;s unique country,you%26#39;ll never know.Friendly people and the sites are attractive.90% and above of traveler been there fully recommend to visit there.

- North most Himalaya snow capped mountains

- Main land cities of Yangon and Mandalay

- Western hill tribes ( Naga / Tattoo faces of Chin peoples )

- Ancient cities of Bagan and MraukU (11AD )

- Scenic beauty of Inlay Lake

- 135 ethnic groups

-Southern end Myeik Islands ( 400 Islands )
