Planning a trip to Myanmar instead of Thailand what with all the crap going on there and was wondering if there was any good snorkeling or diving spots.

And hows the water color, reef%26#39;s etc. any info would be appreciated. Thanks

In Myanmar, Mergui Archipelago is better than Thailand as per many divers and it is un-spoiled yet. You can go from Thailand or come to Yangon, then fly to Kawthaung and go for it . It can be done from October to April.

There you get easy in thai land ,and there so many expert of snorkel and dive,

and they will contact into Burma travel agency and GOVT agent too,

and you can ask Moby dick tour company and Myanmar pole star they arrange from Burma.

once i work in Myanmar pole star in short time but at that time I made trip itinerary for those places.

I was there as a guide last week.It%26#39;s the best time to visit Islands of Myanmar.The weather is fine.The only one gate way to visit there is entry from Kawthong,the south most town.You can find out 3 tour operators in this town for all snorkeling and diving.

3.Margui Princess travel

They%26#39;ve regular dive trips with experts.

The way to get there is to fly from Yangon-Kawthong or entry from Ranong ( Thailand border )by a special permission.

If you are happy to forget diving and just snorkel then Ngapali is good but not spectacular.Some fish off the mermaid reef but boat trips to pearl island etc readily available.

Once the initial huge hit of airfare is paid can I assume it is a fairly cost effective place to live,eat, vacation?

Certainly is, can be cheap as you want.some boast on TT that they manage on $25 a day.

Would think it as cheap as anywhere in SE asia.

However, moving up you can get good hotels in Yangon at $50,dinner at $10 and internal flights from $65ew.

Ngapali beach has hotels now from $50-150-I listed eight of them on my Aureum posting

Myeik Islands( South end )There The Andman Club hotel arrange regular snorkeling trip on every saturaday 1600 Baht per person ( 8am to 5 pm ).

And Ngapli beach of West coast.

The cheapest you can do is called the Birds Island which is 2 hours boat trip from Chaung Tha or Ngwe Saung beach ( west of Yangon ).
