Did anybody stay in this hotel in Ngapali? Any idea about service etc.?
I%26#39;ve heard that there are big stones on the beach and in the water, in front of the hotel, that might interfere with swimming. Is it true?
Aureum Palace Resort. Did anybody have the experience?
Visited it whilst it being constructed and, having been taken on a tour, have decided to book it for Jan next year as a change from Sandoway Resort (3 visits)
There are outcrops of rocks on Ngapali beach - something I enjoy because I enjoy snorkeling and that is where the fish are, but there are long stretches of clear sand in between.
I certainly would not change a hotel choice because of possible stones as a walk of 50m gets you to clear water.

silverswimmer,
Did you last mean latest posting on Ngapali Beach hotel?
It seems there is nothing related to Aureum palace.
A misunderstanding?
Although I am planning to stay in Aureum in January 09.
pm- sorry meant Ngapali Bayview posting which said-
';Aureum asked 175 USD for a garden view. Much nicer than Bayview. Great pool.';
May see you at Aureum-look out for an old grey haired bloke in speedos and snorkeling gear.
Not a pretty sight!
There are plenty of other hotels in Ngapali. Just so that people know, Tay Za owns this place. Go ahead and google him.
And most of them have had to have close connections to the Government to have been able to set up on Ngapali beach,mostly through family connections.
OK - if you stayed in a small family hotel/hostel off the beach you could be sure that no official is involved but personally I am to old for that and like my creature comforts- at least some of my money goes to pay the wages of the hotel staff and its suppliers
and ends up in the local economy.
Hi silverswimmer,
I/ve just faced the issue with Aureum. The agency that did the booking in the Aureum palace hotel just wrote:
';Aureum Resort Hotel reply that their hotel was block all of the room on next month because they have VIP guest relating with our government. So they begged that they can%26#39;t give the room within your tour period and they advise me to change booking at other hotel.';
Seems to be a bullshit. Do you face the same problem with this hotel in Jan 09?
See your private message.
Geoff
hey.. don%26#39;t go private, it%26#39;s interesting to know such business. keep us posted.
I%26#39;ve heard through the grapevine that the hotels in Ngapali are getting booked very quickly. Most people in Yangon who can afford it will be there for the cool weather at this time of year. Just about everyone I know here has been over xmas %26amp; the new year. Some hotels are also doing promotions for residents.
The Sandway looks ok though if you cant get your first choice, the guy who owns this place also owns the Savoy in Yangon, they seem like a nice bunch. Buy him a beer %26amp; you may get a discount:-))
