My daughter, who%26#39;s 20, and 3 friends are planning a trip to Rangoon in May for 3 weeks. Is it safe for 4 young women to travel alone in Myanmar?

Safety in Myanmar?
Hi there
I wouldn%26#39;t worry yourself at all. You see many female travellers here, whether they are travelling on their own or in small groups. I%26#39;d say that Burma is without doubt the safest place in SE Asia for tourists, I%26#39;d even go as far to say that it%26#39;s probably one of the safest tourist destinations in the world. People are courteous, charming %26amp; very helpful to travellers, they%26#39;ll all have an amazing experience.
If you need further confirmation on how safe it is here, go to the Thorn Tree website %26amp; read some of the many trip reports that have been posted there. There%26#39;s alot more trip reports on that site %26amp; plenty of female travellers who have shared their experiences of travelling this beautiful country. To tell the truth, I havn%26#39;t read one report that even mentions any concerns of safety. So long as they travel with a sensible head they%26#39;ll have an amazing time.
I%26#39;d be more worried about the blistering heat in may than anything else:-))
Enjoy
StPaulBusyMom,
I just got back for Burma after 10 days there. I felt extremely very safe and welcomed. At the same time, I travelled only to major areas, namely Rangoon, Mandalay, and Bagan.
I had a chance to spend sometime with many other travellers who went to other remote places (remember that foreigners are off limit in some places) and they felt very safe.
Bring bug sprays and use them. I brought mine but did not use because I hate the sticky feeling and got bug bites pretty badly.
Hi,
Me and my boyfriend just got back this week from Myanmar and we loved it! I felt perfectly safe all the time! I would worry more about my handbag and camera here in Madrid than I had to do in Myanmar. The most wonderful thing about Myanmar is it麓s people. They are polite and a little curious of foriegners but in a very nice way! Very helpful if they can speak English and if not they still try. Not very pushy, someone might offer their guide or taxi services but compared to other Asian countries if you give them a polite ';no, we don麓t need it'; they leave you alone.
Let me know if you need any advice at all!
Kind regards
Emelie
SPBM-
Your daughter is safer in Yangon than she is at home. She%26#39;ll have a wonderful time.
Thank you all for your information. My questions were premature as the girls have now decided not to go. Hawaii is looking better to them. Thanks anyway
I don%26#39;t think you could get more of a diverse destination change than from Burma to Hawaii. I might need a while to work that one out:-))
Best of luck to them.
Over the past 5 years I have visited Burma four times during Nov-Feb period and have walked around the places in and around Yangon Bagan Mandalay and Nagpali beach. Have had no problems except potholes on some of the streets. Lately there have been random bombing incidents around Yangon but that is not as frequent as in the middle East for example.I would advise to travel by taxi at night considering the taxifare is so reasonable
