Hi there, I already have the tourist visa for Myanmar and plan to cross overland from Mae Sot Thailand border, I know you can do a day trip in Myanmar side but not sure if you can enter the country from there,
many thanks!!!
As well I heard the government charges a fee to enter every village you go through is that true, (around 10US$ sounds quite expensive)

crossing overland from thailand
Celine-
The government does not charge any fee to enter any village. The only exceptions are areas of archaelogical or religious significance. I have read a lot of crazy things about Myanmar, but this one is new.
I don%26#39;t ever suggest that people wanting to travel in Burma enter overland. People do enter over land, but flying in is so much more reliable.
That said, Mae Sot is the most reliable border crossing. You may or may not be allowed to continue into Myanmar on a regular tourist visa. This depends on the way the breeze is blowing on whatever day you enter. I know people who have gotten through no problem and people who have been refused entry.
crossing overland from thailand
Not these days! If you want to make sure your trip, do not overland this way! Probably from Ranong, Thailand. Not from Mae Sot, the main theme is one of KNU leader has been assassinated recently. The Weather is so cloudy there.
As far as I know, No , Not allowed to enter more. Only you can visit to Kyaing Tong and Tachilake only.
That entry also depend on situation and without notice shut down the cross overland from Mae Sot.
As all the other already mentioned. Things change rapidely in Myanmar. Even within the country policies changes all the time. Once I planned a boattrip from Yangon to Setset, Myiek and Kawthoung (border crossing with Ranong, Thailand). But when I got in Yangon, officials cancelled the boattrip.
Other story from people I met there: they travelled to Mandalay and took a one-way ticket from there to Kengtung from where they were supposed to travel over land to Tachilek and cross the border. Officials at the border told them to return to Mandalay since the border-crossing was closed for foreigners. Another $ 180x2 they had to spend on (government-owned) flight-tickets. 3 Days before they were told in Mandalay that the crossing should be fine....
I go with the rest: don%26#39;t try to cross overland (unfortunately).
