Hi. I will be coming from china what would be the easiest way to get to rangoon? Also is it still possible to get a visa at the airport if i have a confirmed hotel? Would it be easie to get there from cambodia ,laos or vietnam as i will be spending 2 months traveling in the area? thanks judy
Obtaining visas at the airport (us citizen)
There are direct flights to Yangon and Mandalay from a few airports in China. Cost.. one way is from around USD 250.00.
Cheapest flight is with Airasia from Bangkok to Yangon.
You need to get a visa in advance or pre-arrange one through an agent.
Without a visa or a letter to confirm that one is arranged, you will not be allowed to board the plane.
There are no non-stop flights from Cambodia, Laos or Vitnam to Myanmar. Flights via Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hong Kong, Singapore, KL are an option, but not cheap.

By all means, have your visa ready! My travel agent got my visa for me and in the rush of leaving, I didn%26#39;t really look it over. My heart sank en route from Bangkok to Rangoon as I realized the visa had expired two days before. I was turned away at Immigration and placed on the next flight back to Bangkok. Luckily, I was able to get one the same day from the Burmese embassy and was back in Rangoon the same night.
Re; pre-arranged visas.
This option works ok, but is mainly worthwhile for people goind on a group tour, or for people living in a country where there%26#39;s no Myanmar representation.
Re; visa in Bangkok... the same day option is not available at the moment.. minimum time is 2 (working) days... Ordinarily it takes about 3.
oudaipur...BTW.. surprising that your airline didn%26#39;t look closely enough at your visa and notice that it had already expired when you checked in. Usually they scrutinise these things thoroughly?
mosegrisen,I travelled via Thai Airlines and yes, I had to present my passport on check-in.聽 I expect my passport was given only a cursory inspection where a Myanmar visa was evident, but the date apparently was not checked.聽 The visa had a September 2007 date, which is when I was travelleing.聽 However, it expired Sept 17 and I was travelling on the 19th.聽 Easy mistake for the airlines.聽 DUMB mistake on my part.聽 I was traveling solo and had high hopes Myanmar officials would also only glance at month and year.聽 In retrospect, that probably eventually would have created a greater problem. My advice to all . . .聽 a valid visa is ultimately your responsibility. Check it carefully.
