I understand there is some good hiking near Inle that can get you to remote villages and hill tribes. Anyone have advice/detials?
Also, is it possible to drive from Bagan to Inle or is it best to fly to Inle. Assume flying is better but a road trip may be an adventure or just a pain?
Thanks.
Hiking to remote Villages
The flight Bagan to Heho (Inle) cost around USD 35.00.. when purchased in Myanmar... Yangon air, Bagan air and Mandalay air all fly this route.
Road is really bad.. as all roads in Myanmar.. the bus takes 11 to 12 hours.. (USD 7.00).. and you are correct.. it%26#39;s both an adventure.. and a pain....
There are some interesting treks.... you really need to have a guide.. can be arranged easyly once on the ground... Not expensive.

BURMA
We flew to Heho from Bagan, and then took a taxi to Kalaw. We stayed at the Golden Kalaw Inn - cheap and with great guides that hang out and will take you the next day.
We hired Mr. Chain that night and he took the 2 of us (and no one else!) on a 3 full day 2 night trip that took us to Inle. I think it was $10/person/day, which included lodging and food.
We saw tribal villages, stayed with a local family, got a great workout, and stayed at a monastery. It was a highlight of the trip.
I highly recommend Mr. Chain. He speaks great English, as well as Burmese, and 4 other tribal languages. He%26#39;s in terrific shape, and a fabulous chef.
Our trek was a highlight of a fabulous trip.
Tribe trekking is not great out of Heho. If you want a more interesting experience in Shan State, try Kyaingtong. Some of the tribes have been impacted by tourism, but the majority, especially as you get a little further away from town, are really quite something.
On our second visit to Myanmar last October we did two days hill tribe trekking in Kyaing Tong - the highlight of our trip. We had a fantastic guide and if you are interested I can give you his contact details.
Dear friend,
Do you want to do great trekkings and adventures you can come to my town call Kalaw ,There is great trekking . I am a trekking guide ( harri singh) go to golden lily guest house and ask for me . then you can find the best solution.
I haven%26#39;t taken any treks yet, but a friend of mine stayed in Kalaw and used Mr. Chain. She raved about the experience and said Mr. Chain was great.
Kalaw trekking is also very nice. Kalaw is rapidly developing due to its proximity to Inle and Taunggyi, but it really is incredibly beautiful.
If you think the landscapes and colors of Provence are beautiful, then check out the area around Kalaw. When I showed some people my photos, all of them said that they were reminiscent of photos I had taken in Provence some time ago. Stunning colors, landscapes. And the best thing about all of it of course: the Myanmar people who I maintain are the kindest on earth.
What great information! I plan on visiting Myanmar in late spring and would love an experience like this. Can anyone comment a bit more on transportation to/from Heho airport? How much do taxis cost (I%26#39;ll be travelling by myself, so I worry about these kinds of costs).
When in Late Spring? Weather really is a factor when traveling in this part of the world.
April and May are extremely hot and punctuated my storms which usually last a few minutes. June can get pretty wet, IMO too wet for trekking, but everyone has his/her limits. I have visited Myanmar in April/May/June many times, and I tend to prefer relaxing with the locals during those months. Trekking is better in November - March.
