Any idea, what to look for in Sagaing and its surrounding areas? How to go there? Thanks.
Sagaing-things to do
Sagaing is very closed to Mandalay.Sagaing Hill, the place for over 700 monasteries and you can visit sliverware factory . After that you can visit to Ava (Inwa) Monastery built by Chief Queen in the 1818 and Bargayar Monastery for well known wood carving with 267 teak pillars. You can go to Amarpaura and enjoy sunset by crossing over U Bein Bridge upon return to Mandalay.
Sagaing-things to do
mgzaymin, thanks for your reply. Sounds v.interesting! 700 monastries? If I want to go/do everything you mentioned how many days do you reckon? Thanks.
Most of them they visit in one day only with car. They don%26#39;t visit all the monastery and not all the pagodas.Morning , they go to Sagaing , visit two three pagodas , visit silver ware factory then go to Ava(Inwa) and before sunset , go to Amarpaura , U Bein Bridge, enjoy sunset , get the photo and back to Mandalay
Cost of the car for the day is probably about USD 35.00 to 40.00 for the day, to do as poster above sugests. All very easy to arrange.

Yes, you can do all 3 cities in one day, but if you have time to spare while in Mandalay, you might consider not doing such an all-in-one tour. When you rush it, especially in beautiful Sagaing, you might not have time to really appreciate all there is to see.
one tip when you visit U Bein%26#39;s Bridge in Amarapura: try to time it so that you arrive in late afternoon, an hour or so before sunset. Walk across the bridge to the village on the other side. If you have time, visit one of the old pagodas there, and then for the journey back across, have one of the boat guys row you across to the other side. That way, you can see the old bridge framed in the setting sun. A great sight!
Another town that gets overlooked in the area is Paleik. It has an interesting ';snake pagoda'; where these 3 huge Burmese pythons are feed and bathed each morning. But a few hundred yards away from this pagoda, toward the river, is an area filled with ancient stupas. It%26#39;s been called a ';mini-Bagan'; and that is a true comparison. Amazing place.
