ngapali is it safe?

Hi everyone

Am arranging a stop off in Myanmar on way back from London to New Zealand in October. I love the idea of going somewhere thats not been over touristed and by the look of some comments this seems to be the place especially handy to Bangkok. But is it safe to travel that way at moment?

We are looking at staying at Amata Resort and also wondered if anyone knew if the deluxe first floor rooms all have sea views?

Any advice would be welcome.

ngapali is it safe?

Myanmar is one of the safest place on world until now and Ngapali as well. For the October , if no political movement , it will still safe.

As far as I know, Amata Resort do not have much sea view or sea front room even a suite room. If I am not mistake, deluxe rooms are not sea view room in Amata.Be careful.

All deluxe rooms in Amazing Ngapali Resort is seaview and all suite rooms are sea front rooms.

ngapali is it safe?

Hi there,

Re: Safety - Myanmar is top safe in the region. Some happens in Thailand and India, nobody cares. There is no such crime here. Though politically it%26#39;s shady to say it will be unrest or not.

Re: Amata Resort - Deluxe first fr rooms are not sea views. They have something they call ';Cabana Cottage'; or ';Grand Cabana Cottage'; that are close to sea. Due to their different architect, superior or deluxe rooms at Amata resort cannot guarantee a view of sea.

Optionally, you can look for rooms at Amazing Ngapali Beach %26amp; Bay View Beach Resort. All are sea view there!

Or if your $$ will stretch that far , the excellent sea view villa%26#39;s at Sandoway Resort or Aureum Resort.

Ngapali must be one of the safest places in the World - been going there since 1998 and hope to return this year.

Enjoy.

Hey thanks for this...I was hoping for these sort of positive replies.

Seems like Myanmar is my sort of place, not all touristed out yet? Was thinking of coming London- Bangkok-then to Yangon. Is Yangon an interesting place to stay a night or two or is there a better place to head to before we go to beach at Amata resort? Any advice on nice hotels you would recommend close to the sights, medium price say $150?

Are there any other main airports you can fly into from Bangkok or perhaps via another airport?

Hi Trickey-Dickey,

How much time are you willing to spend in Myanmar? You need at least 2-3 days in Yangon. It is a very interesting place; and like Ngapali is safe. Stay centrally eg. at the Traders Hotel, the [Grand Plaza] Park Royal Hotel and you can walk around to the Bogyoke Market. There is the Shwe Dagon Pagoda not very far, and also the Sule Pagoda which is actually in the city center; nearby which is the Yangon City Hall an interesting British attempt to combine/blend Burmese and Western architecture. the same could also be said of the Yangon Railways station. A bit out of the center are the Kaba Aye Pagoda (World Peace Pagoda) and the man-made cave in which the 6th Buddhist Synod was held in the late 1950%26#39;s. There is also the Chaukhtat Kyi Pagoda with it%26#39;s massive reclining Buddha.

Ngapali: Very safe indeed as others have mentioned. I usually stay at the Ngapali Beach Hotel which has sea/ocean front rooms at very reasonable prices. I believe the Ngapali Thande Hotel also has seaview rooms. October will be a lovely time to be in Ngapali; although just after the monsoons, it might be a touch windy and the sea choppy. Be sure to walk along the beach in southerly direction to a little bar/restaurant on a small island off shore called the paradise island. The views are great and you can relax with some drinks. (You probably willhave to wade across to get to the bridgehead first)

Happy sea shell picking in the mornings!

just spent 25 days travelling around the so called tourists yangon, mandalay, bagan and ngapali

as this is my second visit i can assure you it is safe and the people are trustworthy

I you want a room with a sea view i recommend ngapali beach hotel

all have sea view

three levels of quality

standard first and ground floor nice and airy and clean

superior,i initially booked one .like a small bungalow and close to the beach but all dark wood and depressing

deluxe, better all round light ,bright and airy larger room ,tv etc

I personally downgraded myself and was totally happy in our standard room on first floor

Since our last visit a year ago the management has changed and i did notice that the service and attention was still there but some person has decided to cut costs and not replace the wash ing machine and replace with 5 staff doing all the linen!

whilst they might think it save s them money in the short term it means a drop in standards and clean but off white linen!!!

I WOULD STILL STAY THERE AND ITS NICE AND CENTRAL

FROM WHAT I HAVE HEARD THE OTHER HOTELS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE

you will enjoy

Hey this is great feedback and really helpful, certainly makes me feel better about traveling to this area. Interesting I%26#39;ve emailed Amata Resort several times and haven%26#39;t received any reply. Not very efficient even though highly recommended on this site. Are these places usually so slow at getting back to you or I may have to look at other places you%26#39;ve recommended?

best bet is to get into yangon maybe one or two nights and then get in touch with local travel agent they can always get you the best rate

because you are going in october %26lt;you dont state which date%26gt; you need to make sure the hotel is up and running as its the beginning of the season

i do have the name of the company i used and was more than happy with

let me know if you want his details

regards truey

Hi Trickey-Dickey,

I often face this problem. I believe it is also largely due to their availablility/quality of internet connection. The services were seriously curtailed following the Sept/Oct 07 incidences (with help and advice from the friendly neighbour - China!). I know the ISP%26#39;s in Myanmar were finding themselves overloaded and struggling even before the incidences. I know of fact some of my e-mails hadn%26#39;t got to them when I mentioned about them later. I would try others as well. See if you can get their telephone number and perhaps try an calling them? Just some suggestions.

Hi all

Had same coms problem when booking our hotels for our next visit.

In the end the fax was the quickest and cheapest(rather than phone) way of getting answers and we booked all three hotels this way, although the confirmations came by e.mail!!

They were all delighted to get a repeat reservation.

The elections may have been the reason for poor internet service.
