Axvice as to most beautiful and authentic beach-side resort

Hello,

I am presently in Laos, where I come each year to teach English as a volunteer at a local orphanage. I am currently planning a second honeymoon for my husband and me [37 years of marriage] for when he flies from Australia to meet me at the beginning of October.

I would like to book the most beautiful, nurturing beach front resort which is reflective of Burmese culture at either Ngwesaung Beach or Ngapali Beach.

We have not been to Myanmar before and I am having difficulty working this out just from the sites I have visited.

As I wish for this to be a memorable experience for both of us, I would be most grateful for any input from those who have been blessed enough to have ventured before us.

Thank you.

1. Ngwesaung Beach is recently develope and it is about 5 hrs drive from Yangon. For Hotel, the rate is cheaper than Ngapali.

2. Ngapali is 45 minutes fly from Yangon. It is the most beautiful beach in Myanmar.

All the hotels in Ngapali and Ngwesaung beach are beach front resort.

If you are asking about most beautiful , nurturing beach front resort, I will recommen for Amazing Ngapali Resort . According to villigers, the palce of Amazing Ngapali Resort is the origin of the place that become famous as Ngapali . The best place for swimming and beauty. However the resort is opend in late 2005 and you won%26#39;t see much recommendation in forum yet . Rooms are large and very tastefully decorated with burmese style. visit www.amazing-hotel.com. They have honeymoon package and they can arrange airport transfer with horse cart .

Another one is Sandoway Resort . They have more Italy influence and you can visit www.sandowayresort.com.

Here are some for you to look into. Bay View Hotel , www.bayview-myanmar.com , Aureum Resort , www.aureumpalacehotel.com , Ngapali Beach Hotel ,www.ngapalihotel.com.

As there are 10 detailed replies on your identical posting on the TT web site I won`t repeat my comments here.

Enjoy Ngapali beach.

Stay away from Aureum Palace. Google the owner and you%26#39;ll see why.

Also as far as Myanmar beaches go, Ngapali is the most beautiful, but Ngwe Saung is significantly less developed.

If what you mean by %26#39;authentic%26#39; is that you are looking for local flavor, remember that these resort areas are wholly conceived by the government and you%26#39;re not going to be staying in the middle of a quaint fishing village, although you will certainly run into fishermen in both locations.

Have a wonderful time in Myanmar. I am sure that your experiences in Laos will make the trip even more enjoyable for you.

Well, above said is right,if you have political concern, stay away from Aureum Palace and Trasure Resort in Bagan,Inle, Ngwe Saung and Ngapali.

The owner is biggest supporter of Junta.

Thanks for the additions, MGZ.

Op! forgot to mention. Air Bagan too. It is the same owner.

Suspect that the backers(silent or otherwise)of all the up market hotels on Ngapali beach are involved with the junta , otherwise they would not have got permission to have them built.

Interesting to read the text of the speech given by the MD of Air Bagan on this link to their site.

Watch out- he is threatening to sue those who says he is the son-in-law of one of the Generals!

I am an employee of Aureum Resort, Ngapali and I would like to clear up the big misunderstanding about our mother company and our boss. He is not related to anyone in the government. This untruth has been being circulated on the internet as if it’s gospel. Nobody around the world seems to understand he risked the wrath of the people concerned and his life when he publicly declared he was not related to such and such. A lot of stuff written about our owner on the internet is guesswork or malicious content. I do not mean to say that everything is not true but most of the Myanmar people who are fighting for democracy and freedom from outside of the country work a lot on the internet and they seem to get the rumors and gossip most of the time. People tend to believe in rumors in Myanmar because sometimes rumors tend to come true about government policies.

What we know as his employees is the fact that he is a good man, a workaholic who is down-to-earth despite his wealth and amazingly kind at heart. Even his top executives cannot comprehend how he can almost always forgive those who have cheated him or insulted him, because after a while without hesitation he would help them out again when they come to him again for help.

I can tell you that he is a good employer. Aureum Ngapali closes for four months during the rainy season. During this downtime we receive full salaries. We are the only employees on the beach who receive the actual service charge. Other hotels do not pay service charge or they pay a small fixed amount which they call service charge because they do not want to pay that during downtime.

Our boss often tells us that he started a hotel chain because he likes hospitality business and because he wanted to create many jobs around the country. It is a way of paying back to his mother country.

After cyclone Nargis, he went to the hardest-hit areas with us, his employees, and worked very hard with us day and night to rescue the people and to help them in many ways. We provided elbow-grease only but he provided a lot of money as well as hard work. For security reasons and because of confusion we were prevented from reaching some hard-hit areas at first; but he worked very hard pushing and shoving until we could reach those places. Life was not easy in those areas during that period. He worked with us and slept like us just on a mat laid on hard ground because he did not want to waste time going and coming just for a night’s comfort; time was so important for the rescue work. Our company spent millions of dollars in a few days doing the rescue work; we looked after a couple of communities for months; of course we did not do it alone but we were the first ones to be there. Many NGOs and embassy personnel were there. If you would like the truth instead the jealous internet stuff, please come to Myanmar and see for yourselves.

We know that our company is losing money on hotel business and airline business. We do not appreciate the Myanmar people outside the country who do not understand our problems and just keep shouting “don’t go there”. “Don’t use that hotel” “That guy is supporting the government”. Actually they don’t have a clue what’s really happening to us here. They are enjoying their life out there, wearing nice jackets with tie and all and saying “Name and shame whoever is successful inside Myanmar”. Where were they when we were saving our countrymen in the Delta? Where were they when our people were dying in tens of thousands? They are the ones who should be ashamed of themselves.

We have no reason to defend our government who failed in many ways to look after its own people hit so hard by such a huge disaster. We are completely disappointed in them. But the same is not true about our boss and our company. We did our best. And we are now and we will be.

You can come and find out yourself.

With full respect for all human beings and kindness for all beings.

A Myanmar worker form Ngapali

With many thanks for my English teacher who corrected the above message for me

To Worker from Ngapali-

Your posting sounds truly heartfelt, and I do not like to participate in depriving you or ANY OTHER hard-working Myanmar of revenue from foreigners.

Your boss might very well be a kind person. He might be good to his employees. Unfortunately he is also very close with the senior general of your government, and another VERY senior general is on the board of his holding company. The same company that owns the hotel where you work also owns some of your country%26#39;s most lucrative export contracts for Myanmar products and resources.

Any visitor to your country certainly deserves to be aware of these associations.

By the way, your English is superb. You should leave TZ%26#39;s hotel and teach English in Yangon!!!
