I would like to visit Burma during mid aug and had a few questions. Is it a good time to visit ( with the cyclone, rainy etc.)
I am coming not only for tourism but to buy local handicrafts.Where can I buy them. How do I get from Rangoon to Mandalay.
Also if anyone knows how to get from India to Rangoon?
Thanks

India to Yangon .. via bangkok or via Dakka (Bangladesh)
Mid August .. Still raining season. Expect the rain in Yangon but other tourist spot like Bagan and Mandalay is not much rain compare to Yangon. For Cyclone , hard to predit as this Nagis Cyclone is the first time experience for all of us including who have 90 years of age.
Local Handicrafts .. Visit Bogyoke Market at Yangon .
Yangon to Mandalay .. By car or By flight. By car about 16~17 hrs and by flight about 1 1/2 hrs.

August some rain but no ciclone . Yangon to Mandalay better flight around ( 80 usd ) handicrift is the best in Mandalay . for more information www.myanmartravel.info you can get better price (flight and car service ) there also .
Air India have said that they will fly back at every Monday starting from October.Kolkata/Yangon/Kolkata.
So, if you want to visit in August , you have to fly via Bangkok.
Hi Prachi,
The easiest way to reach yangon is from Kolkata by indian airlines.Unfortunately they have closed services for september. Other than that u can reach via bangkok(airasia, bangkokair). The cheapest flight to bangkok currently is from kolkata (airindia express).
There is no issue regarding carrying handicraft items and gems. You only have to get a certificate of customs from the shop where u buy gems from, they give it with out any problems. Let me know in case you have any other questions regarding yangon..i m currently in Delhi but have my business in yangon and will be reaching there sometime in mid-september..
