Getting around Myanmar

Hello all,

I%26#39;m planning to visit Myanmar at the end of September and have some questions:

1. How much money should I take for a period of one month? I%26#39;m planning to backpack, so no luxurious hotels for me...

2. I understand that getting around can be quite difficult. What%26#39;s the best way to move from place to place (without entering too much money into the hands of the government)? I heard that public transportation is horrible. Is that right? Can we travel by bus? Do we have to get a guide? Is so, any recommendations for good ones will be appreciated (and how to contact them when arriving in Yangon.

3. Do you have any recommendations on guest houses in the main visiting sites (Bagan, Mandalay, etc.)

Your quick reply will be much appreciated, since our flight leaves on Thursday.

Thank you so so much.

Getting around Myanmar

1. Hotel and food around .. USD25 per day.

2. Travelling , from one point to another , for example, Yangon to Mandalay .. around USD 15

3. Daily travel .. keep for USD10/-

4. Guide .. I think no need , most hotel can able to direct you.If you want someone can advise you for this.

5. Since , I am local , I donot want to recommend , so I will recommend for you for Yangon only and after that you can get all information from Yangon hotel or through other tourist when you are in that hotel . I saw numbers of Iseral stay in ';Mother Land Inn 2'; , e.mail : mli2@myanmar.com.mm , www.myanmarmotherlandinn.com . They will pick you up at airport free of charge if you will stay there.

6. Public transport is horrible . However, from Yangon to Mandalay is O.k, Mandalay - Bagan you can use river boat, Bagan- Inle may use flight . Mandalay-Bagan-Inle public transport is horrible.

7. If you want to go with taxi, without aircon , if you can share with your friends, 4 person may cost you 70 USD per day through out the country.

Hope it will get you some idea. Other then that , please bring new USD note as new as possible and do not bring serial number start with CB. You will get less exchange. I forgot to mention about entrance zone fees . I am not sure how much collect now but less than 10 USD per entrance , such as Shwedagone Pagoda, Inle Zone, Bagan Zone.

Wellcome from Myanmar.
