Myanmar Itinerary #2

Hi all,

I%26#39;m living and studying in Thailand, and I%26#39;ll be traveling to Myanmar from Oct. 18-27, flying into and out of Yangon. I read the ';Myanmar Itinerary'; thread tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294191-i9454-k215… and it seems like a great itinerary but it%26#39;s way out of my budget. I%26#39;ll be looking to stay at inexpensive guesthouses or dormitories (if they exist) and traveling by bus/train overnight to save time and expense on accomodation. I will look into flights if they are cheap. I want to travel to the major destinations (Bagan, Inle Lake, Mandalay and Yangon) in addition to diverting away from the touristy areas and getting to know the Burmese culture and its people. To save money, I don%26#39;t want to use a travel agent, but at the same time, I don%26#39;t want to be completely lost. So any and all advice would be appreciated in helping me plan a relatively smooth and inexpensive trip. Basically, my plan is to not have any plans. I don%26#39;t want to book anything in advance other than my flight to Yangon. I%26#39;d just like some advice for when I arrive there.

For transportation, should I consult the bus companies and airlines directly, or can discounts be had elsewhere?

For cheap accomodation, suggestions?

I%26#39;d like to only spend about $10-15 per day on room and board.

For sightseeing, do it on my own, one-day tours? What are the prices like?

Looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say...
