Hi All. My little family is looking at travelling to Myanmar in early 2009 (Jan/Feb) We are looking at also travelling to Kalaymyo (Chin State) on top of the usual itinerary. We would like to stay there for about 2 nights as we have some things and places we wanted to check out. We will have 2 young kids and was wondering whether if there are any clean, decent 3 stars + hotel around in the town? Also we have heard flights can be unreliable. Is that true? So far we found only 2 airlines fly there from Yangon. Air Bagan and Myanma Airways. Which one is safer and more reliable?
Any info on this would be lovely as we are abit nervous considering our 2 young kids.
Thank you.
Kalaymyo
Am sure resident posters will answer most of your questions but I can answer one -do not fly Myanmar Airways (I have seen the state of their aircraft and have read up on their safety records).
Have flown Air Bagan, Air Mandalay and Yangon Air with no problems and were impressed with staff standards, safety briefings etc (but I was not on the Air Bagan ATR that crashed earlier this year - no fatalities incidentally).
Kalaymyo
Personally I never been there but there is a hotel call, ';Taung Za Latt Hotel'; . I do not expected about 3 stars because not much tourist go. Anyway if you really want , I will ask around and get back to you on hotel condition.
You can not fly to Kalay, you have to use the car and roads are very bad and I do not recommend for you if you have 2 young kids.As far as I heard from other people is roads are narrow , rough and if one of the car breakdown, you can not continue it.
Thanks for the info everyone. I did not know Air Bagan had a crash this year. We will keep in mind re: Myanma airways. Considering the new info we may have to reconsider although it would be nice to be able to make it there for once.
