Should we go to Burma?

We had booked our trip through Burma for early February, but with the recent history we are now troubled as to whether we would be doing the local Burmese people a favour by travelling there at the moment. It could cause them more problems than we are worth. Would we be helping more by waiting to travel later?

Should we go to Burma?

Some might say that you would be helping them more by going. I can’t really see that there could be a downside for local people. People employed in the tourist trade are going to be very happy to see you and very unhappy if we don%26#39;t. Difficult to separate politics from business and issues such as being able to get travel insurance if foreign affairs advise ';essential travel only'; has to be taken into account.

I was not planning to go there this year and have made other plans already but am now thinking about changing my plans so that I do go. Not for political reason, merely because I%26#39;m thinking that a few weeks worth of travel expenses may as well go to people in need as to people in a place like Thailand where they already have plenty of business and there are lots of places I haven’t been to yet....... I suggest you keep an eye on the developments and make an informed decision while considering your own safety and security.

Should we go to Burma?

Thanks for that. I feel in quite a dilema about this.

Dear Pambo1,

As a ordinary Myanmar citizen ,stay in Myanmar, we need you all to be around for many reasons. Honestly speaking, we need your dollars ,to continue life of so many people who depend on tour industry . At the other hand, you can see with your own eyes and can judge . At the same time more foreigner around mean more eyes from the world.

For safety , Myanmar is safe place that everyone agree . Please feel free to visit Myanmar if you really want to help ordinary people, we all want you to be in Myanmar.

As we always mention , only a few tourist dollars go to government , such as visa fees, airport tax and entrance fees. More of the dollars, you spent go to ordinary people.

mgzaymin,

Is there any cyber cafe operating now? Or, any internet access at all? Heard that it%26#39;s been shut down, wanting to find out how true it is.

Thanks.

Yes, it is back to normal again and that%26#39;s why I can able to read and reply to you .To be honest , internet communication is on and off . It is off again about a week at end of last month and beginning of this month. However e-mail and phone lines are working.

Hi

I feel a bit scared to go Burma also because the troubles but i met one lady in the embassy who told me lot of things in Burma and said it is safe to go there also. I found out that she is reporter. So i supposed she visits there often so I will be in Burma during on 1-12Dec. Anyway, I will keep you update.

Well come from Burma and you will know the true soon. Myanmar is safe for travel and peoples always wel-come the foreigner. If possible , I would like to request one thing after your trip, please write your experience , your finding and your feeling on Myanmar. We would like to know.

this is quite a difficult question to somebody outside Burma. See somebody says there '; It%26#39;s like people from outside the World is ';watching Titanic'; and say sorry, feel sorry giving a remark this film could get ';Oscar'; or gold medal award. But I supposed we in the movie are drowning soon. ';

Yes, go. We recently returned. We had a wonderful guide, Mr. YE, (ye700@mail4u.com.mm) who accompanied us on the entire trip. Myanmar and its people are beautiful. I have travelled over the world including all of SE Asia and this is one of the cleanest countries I have been in. In addition travel is a bargain.
