Travel in Myanmar

We are planning to visit Myanmar in early 2009, spending 3/4 days in Mandalay, then Bagan, and then we want to spend up to 12 days in Ngwe Saung. We were planning to fly Bagan - Pathein and transfer to N,Saung, but all our enquiries so far have told us the only way from Bagan To N.Saung is fly to Yangon and then a 5 hour car journey to N.Saung at a cost of approx. $800. Is this right? Anybody have any ideas about this?

Sofar, it is true that you have to fly back to Yangon then, drive to Ngwe Saung. Air Bagan, once announce that they will fly to Pathein but did not happen. For the cost ,I believe that they car have to be with you all the time weather you use it or not and they will charge per day . So, if you stay 12 days , they will properly charge you that amount. So, better fly to Ngapali.

Hi mgzaymin

Thanks for the information. We have now heard that we can take a taxi from Yangon to Ngwe Saung at a cost of about $150 each way - that sounds a much better price than $400! Does that sound OK to you?

If we change our mind about Ngwe Saung and go to Ngapali instead, is the Ngapali Beach Hotel budget, medium or top-quality?

We really are working hard on planning this trip and really looking forward to hearing everybody%26#39;s comments and suggestions.

Based on the prices/facilities quoted on their web site

http://www.ngapalihotel.com/

and comparing them to the most expensive hotels on ngapali beach (Sandoway Resort %26amp; Aureum Resort and Bayview} I would place it as a 4* with the others 5*

(Myanmar * rating not International luxe)

I am not sure what will happen in 2009 but last year, some of the hotels have own transport which was much cheaper . Another question is how many person will travel? USD 150 sound O.K since they have to drop you and come back to Yangon. Then come and pick you up again.

Ngapali Beach Hotel is medium hotel. In Ngapali,

Lin Thar Oo, Royal Beach hotel , consider lowest level .

Ngapali Beach hotel, Sliver Beach Hotel is medium.

Then , Amazing Ngapali Resort, Sandoway Resort, Amata

The most expensive will be Aureum .

Bay view is between Ngapali Beach and Amazing Ngapali resort group.

Another two new hotel open and I don%26#39;t know how%26#39;s the condition. Thande Resort and Pleasant View Hotel.

Hi

Many thanks for the information it is most useful. There will be two people travelling in the car and I think that is just for 1 journey to Ngwe Saung so I think it will be another 150$ for the return journey to Yangon, but I will check by email today.

That was also useful to know that maybe the hotels run a transport service I will also contatc them

Lastly the information on the hotels was most useful

it is always better to here first hand than go by websites as they can say anything.

Once again thank you so much I will keep in touch. I beleive it is a holiday today so I hope you have a good time.

Regards

Hi All

I have heard back from Yangon and the cost of the taxi is 320$ in total for 2 round trips, does this sound a bit over the top or OK.

I look forward to your comments.

I can not say for sure in 2009 since fuel price is keep going up but for today it should be not more than 250 USD .

Sorry, what I mention price is about 8 hrs drive for a day and it is only about 5 hrs drive and I believe it should be USD 200 maximum.

Do ask more to other travel agent or book at last minute. Your agent may afraid of fuel price go up and try to cover up the price if the fuel price go up , that what I think.

Hello ,

We took a rent car from www.myanmartravel.info

for 120 usd to ngwesaung (each way)car was good and driver even brought us to elephant camp on the way that you can ride elephant also. Treasure hotel is ok .
