Hello,
So my boyfriend is in charge of setting up our travels in Myanmar. (He has been there before) We are crossing over from Thailand to Kengtung and really want to make it to Bagan. Our visas went through but I am naive about this country and moving about in it. DO you think we will have a problem getting there? How would you recommend we get there?
Also, has anyone been to Yangon recently and could tell me if it is o.k. to be there (considering their recent natural disaster)
Thanks so much.
Julie
Issues in traveling in Myanmar
Dear Julie,
Thiland to Kyaingtong border crossing is O.K but you can go only Kyaingtong and have to go back to Thailand. As far as I know , your entry from Thailand to Kyaingtong is only border pass.Do not allow to travel to other region.
The same thing, if you come in from Yangon, you can go to Kyaing Tong but you can not go out from Thailand from there. You need to come back to Yangon.
If you want to go Bagan, you have to enter from Yangon only. Yangon is back to normal for quite long . I have seen somone post in this forum on ';Tour Guide Assistant'; who back from Myanmar after cyclone.
Don%26#39;t worry about Yangon. Yangon is safe and sound.
Issues in traveling in Myanmar
Traveling to Myanmar overland is not recommended. Better to fly.
I returned from there recently. Yangon is ok. There is definitely some noticeable trauma, but the people of this city, and the entire country for that matter, are resilient.
When are you going? The weather in Kyaingtong this time of year is not conducive to trekking, which is pretty much the reason most people visit there.
Moving about in Myanmar is very easy. Just be smart and patient, and you cannot go wrong.
